Please help Haiti's older survivors rebuild their lives

Recovery in Haiti - doctor treating an older woman

People in later life are the most at risk in Haiti following January’s devastating earthquake. We are providing food, care-home staff, washing facilities, and mental healthcare. We are also supporting the municipal care home by building toilets and distributing thousands of food packages.

But we still need your help

As the long process of rebuilding Haiti begins we are appealing for you to help us meet the ongoing needs of older survivors, such as Mme Desbrosses, aged 87. After the earthquake, Mme Desbrosses did not eat for three days. She still suffers nightmares. Asked what she needs, she said: ‘Medicine to help me sleep. Without it, I can’t.’

If you are able to respond, here is how we could help:

  • £15 could provide a ‘well-being’ kit containing essentials such as soap,
buckets, laundry powder and toilet paper.
  • £24 could buy a solar-powered lamp and radio for an older person made homeless in the earthquake.
  • £36 could provide medicines or mobility aids to two older Haitians with a long-term health problem or disability
