Age UK works with a wide range of national and international organisations focusing on ageing and advocacy.

We work with the opens link in new window International Federation on Ageing (IFA), the opens link in new window World Health Organisation (WHO), the opens link in new window AARP (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons) and opens link in new window HelpAge International, among others.

HelpAge International

We are a member of the HelpAge International Network and in working together, Age UK and Help Age International reach over 1 million older people each year through long-term development and short-term emergency-relief projects in more than 40 developing countries. Together it is our aim to enable people in later life to lead fulfilling lives wherever they live in the world.

As a network, HelpAge International has more than 80 affiliates in 56 countries. It is the only global network of not-for-profit organisations with a mission to improve the lives of disadvantaged older people.

As a development agency, HelpAge International supports more than 300 local organisations focusing on development and emergency relief programmes in more than 40 developing countries.

Working in Europe

In Europe, we are a leading member of the opens link in new window AGE Platform Europe. This is a European network of approximately 150 organisations of, and for, people aged 50+. It aims to voice and promote the interests of the 150 million older people living in the member states of the European Union.

Age UK is working to improve conditions for older people in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe through direct partnerships with local non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Political and economic changes since the breakdown of the Soviet bloc have caused social problems throughout the region. Older people have lost savings, inflation has made pensions worthless, utility and housing prices are rising and the majority of people in later life in Eastern Europe cannot afford to buy basic necessities. Often they are forced to choose between paying for medicine or buying food.

In Russia, we work with Dobroe Delo and in Ukraine we work with Turbota pro Litnih v Ukraini. We also work with a network of NGOs called the South East European Network (SEEN) in order to improve the lives of people in later life in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia.
