About us
Age UK Barnsley is a registered independent local charity founded in 1974. Our aim is to support the health and wellbeing of all older people living in the Barnsley borough.
We fundraise locally and we need your support to continue to provide valuable services.
Who we are and what we do:
Through the efforts and commitment of 4 full-time and 49 part-time staff, together with a further 145 regular volunteers, we are able to support and provide services to more than 2500 older people on a regular basis.
We provide a range of services to all older people across the Barnsley borough. We can offer support in a number of ways including: One to one support, Activity Groups, Classes, affordable shopping support, Handyperson service, gardening service, Foot care, hairdressing, massage, nail treatments and Day Activity & Care to address issues such as social isolation. We have a free Information & Advice service providing information on keeping warm and well, advice on accessing care, older persons benefits and benefits checks and much more and during winter we also provide a free service of Warm Homes Advisor which includes fitting of insulation items (partly funded from BMBC through the Household Support Grants available).
Like many charities Age UK Barnsley is supported by donations from the public, income from our charity shops and some charitable grants. Age UK and Age UK Barnsley are two different organisations:
Age UK Barnsley is a brand partner of the national Age UK charity which means we work together to campaign, work to a shared quality standard and to share research. However, we are a LOCAL CHARITY and all funds raised by Age UK Barnsley are spent directly on support and services provided by us across the Barnsley Borough and nowhere else.

We Give Advice
Our trained advisors offer free information and advice to older people and their families.
We have helped local older people to claim over £1million that they were entitled to!

We Provide Day Care
Our Day Centre provides a friendly and stimulating environment Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 2:30pm.
We provide a varied programme of activities, talks, chair based exercise, a hot midday meal and refreshments throughout the day!

We Support
Our Social Inclusion Projects help older people to feel less isolated through the Groups and Good Neigbour schemes in Penistone, Cudworth and Wombwell!

Our Centre has a wide range of activity groups and events such as social groups and classes.
Giving older people the opportunity to keep fit, socialise, or learn a new skill!
