Every winter we strive to provide Hot Boxes to older people to help over the cold months. Many people in Bedfordshire struggle to keep warm often sacrificing their personal well-being, turning down their heating, huddling in blankets and going without the luxuries many of us take for granted.
A Hot Box helps to relieve the pressure over the winter time and provides an older person with items such as a blanket, hot water bottle, flask, a woolly hat, scarf, gloves, staple food provisions such as tins, porridge, long-life milk and biscuits.
Our volunteers and staff then distribute the Hot Boxes far and wide across the county ensuring that vulnerable, older people referred to us receive one.
Some comments from our previous Hot Box recipients include:
‘It was like Christmas. The flask is wonderful, I never thought of filling a flask full of warm tea and putting by my bed before. Once again thank you.’
‘I was very grateful for everything that you’ve given me, I’ve recently had surgery and use the hot water bottle for help with pain and to keep warm as moving is still difficult at present.’
’I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to you for the warming winter gift I recently received. It is rare to experience such kindness and thoughtfulness. I loved everything, particularly the blanket, the hot water bottle and the flask with a delicious hot chocolate. I had never tried English rice puddings, and I have found a new favourite for eating to keep warm and healthy!’
Can you help us to provide Hot Boxes this year?
The cost of a hotbox (depending upon the contents) is between £30 and £50. The contents includes items such as - flask, hot water bottle, fleecy blanket, socks, hat, scarf, mittens or gloves, thermal vests, soup, rice pudding, hot chocolate, tea bags, jam, biscuits, baked beans and spaghetti and other items which are easy to heat and eat to keep warm.
Help make an older person’s winter be warmer both in real life and spirit by showing some kindness this year and sponsoring some hotboxes or donating some goods.
Any sponsorship will be acknowledged within the Hot Boxes provided so your kindness and generosity will be publicised to our clients.
Help us to help our older community and show that we care and all love later life.
