Help our work to continue

Legacy income is crucial to an independent local charity like ourselves, helping us to safeguard our services

We recognise that not everyone can afford to help Age UK Blackburn with Darwen financially when they wish to, particularly if you are living on a fixed income.

A gift in your will once you have looked after friends and family is a generous and effective way of making a real difference to the lives of older people in the future.

We promise to be the best possible guardian of your legacy by spending it wisely.

This was the case when we were recently left a legacy by a service user. The legacy enabled us to continue providing our valuable free advice and information service to older people and their carers.

How do I leave a legacy to Age UK Blackburn with Darwen?

You can leave a specific sum of money or an item such as jewellery or a piece of art. You can also leave part of, or all of, what’s left once the other gifts have been distributed.

Your will must clearly state 'Age UK Blackburn with Darwen, registered charity 1143809' to ensure that the gift is kept locally.

If you would like to add a gift to Age UK Blackburn with Darwen to an existing will, you can use a codicil. Adding a codicil to your will means there is no need to change the terms of your current will. It simply adds a new instruction.

As a rule if the change you wish to make is quite small or simple, you can use a codicil, and if the change is more significant or complex you should make a new will and seek legal advice

Download our codicil template (PDF 51kb) or contact us for further information.
