The History of the Festival
Celebrating getting older? What an idea, and it’s a good one! In 2007 the Older People’s Partnership Board  composed 50% of professionals working with older people, and  50% older people themselves, decided that it was time to celebrate all the talent of older people in Bristol, and to let everyone know about the activities available in the city by funding a Festival.
The first Festival lasted a week, and 500 people came to the Festival Day itself held in the Council House (now called City Hall); last year the two week Festival involved thousands of Bristolians in a range of activities across the cit

The Celebrating Age Festival shows the community what assets older people can be, shows younger people that growing older offers opportunities to take a full part in the community, and invites older people to join in the many activities that Bristol offers.

The event will launch this year on Saturday 23rd September 2017 with the Celebration Day at City Hall, College Green. The Celebration Day will include lots of ‘taster’ activities and crafts to try out as well as plenty of stalls offering information about what’s on in Bristol. We will also be celebrating the winners of our Arts and Crafts Competition as well as our Older Achievers Awards.

More information on how to take part in these and other activities on the day can be found on the Festival website at www.celebratingagefestival.co.uk or by contacting Shelley Hankins email shelleyhankins@ageukbristol.org.uk and contact number 0117 929 7537.
