Most of Age UK Buckinghamshire's services rely on the time, loyalty and commitment given by hundreds of volunteers throughout the county. Our volunteers are absolutely invaluable and are the key to our success.
Jim, Shop Volunteer at Age UK Buckinghamshire
Jim has been volunteering at the Age UK Buckinghamshire shop for three years.
Jim volunteers two mornings a week, helping with the re-sale of all electrical items, restoring value and completeing PAT tests.
"I needed to do something and at the same time thought it would be nice to volunteer and give something back to the community"
"Because I’m qualified at PAT testing we are able to sell electrical items – which usually have a higher value."
"The team are great, we get along very well. Everybody has their own story to tell as it were. It’s all about giving something back to the community."
We have a great range of volunteering opportunities on offer in Buckinghamshire. Find the one that suits you!
To apply for one of our volunteer roles, please fill in the application form which can be downloaded from the bottom of this web page. Please note that you need to be a minimum of 18 years of age to apply.
Become a Trustee
Age UK Buckinghamshire is a company limited by guarantee, managed by a Board of Trustees. The trustees are responsible for managing the affairs of the charity in accordance with its Objectives and to ensure continuing compliance with Charity Law and Company Law.
The committee has overall legal responsibility for the work and finances of the organisation, employs the staff who manage the volunteers. The trustees meet six times a year and they have a wide range of experience and skills.
Many of us have supported and helped our parents as they get older; we know from first hand experience the level of expert help that can be needed. It can be comforting to know that the support of organisations such as Age UK Buckinghamshire is there when we need it.
If you would like to know more, please contact Giulia Johnson, our Chief Executive, on 01296 431911.

Charity shop volunteer
Have fun, meet new people and develop new skills. By supporting us to raise money in our shop in Aylesbury High Street you’ll be helping us to help even more people. And the experience you gain can look great on a CV. Call into the shop and speak to the manager or ring us on 01296 431911. We'd love to hear from you if you'd like to make a difference in your community.
You will be matched with an isolated older person and visit them every week for an hour or so to provide a bit of company. This is a vital service helping to alleviate loneliness and isolation in older people in your local community. At the discretion of the volunteer, this could then potentially extend to practical assistance, such as help with transport for doctor, dentist and hospital appointments, collection of prescriptions, shopping trips and social outings - however this is not a mandatory part of the service.
"People assume that making a difference to someone else's life takes a lot of time and effort, however contributing something as simple as an hour or two a week to chat, have a laugh, play dominoes and set the world to rights is actually no effort at all."
