Home service
Age UK Camden's Home Service introduces older people who need help with household chores and light DIY to a Helping Hand, a worker who will perform these tasks for a reasonable charge.
A Helping Hand can assist with:
- General cleaning
- Laundry
- Ironing
- Preparing light snacks
- Pension or shopping collection
- Escorting on appointments, errands and shopping trips
- Any other reasonable request by you
Some questions you may have about the Home service:
What checks are made on the Helping Hand workers?
Every Helping Hand is interviewed and two references are required. In addition, a Criminal Records Bureau check will be carried out before any worker is introduced to a client. The Helping Hand worker will also be asked to obtain their own Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance cover specifically designed for those who provide assistance to others in the home.
What does it cost?
There is a monthly management fee of £20 payable to Age UK Camden, which will be collected from your bank account by variable direct debit. This charge is payable in advance. The Helping Hand will be paid directly by you, according to the hourly rate agreed between you, the Helping Hand, and the project coordinator.
What needs to be provided?
Adequate cleaning materials and safe equipment in good working order to complete the jobs that have been agreed on. Helping Hands can only move light furniture and climb low, stable steps within the home.
