Active ageing

Making ageing a positive experience

'Active ageing is the process of optimising opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance quality of life as people age... It aims to extend healthy life expectancy and quality of life for all people as they age — including those who are frail, disabled or in need of care.' (WHO 2002).

Active ageing means just that — participating in activities and hobbies to stay active in body and mind, trying something new, being involved with and contributing to community life, volunteering, joining in social activities, meeting old friends and making new ones.

Active ageing — enjoy later life

This philosophy is central to the work of Age UK Carlisle and Eden as we aim to assist older people in Eden to retain their independence and make the most out of life.

We offer a variety of activities — ranging from Tai Chi to Walking for Health to Tea Dances, and can signpost you to appropriate activities and groups. We can also assist you in remaining active by offering you opportunities to volunteer.
