Keeping active - activities

Encouraging people to stay fit and active, to maintain their health and enjoy the best possible quality of life is an important element of our work. We offer a range of activities including Walking for Health, Exercise to Music, Tai Chi and monthly tea dances.

Walking for Health

Would you like to walk more often, meet new people and at the same time improve your health? Then our health walks could just be what the doctor ordered!

walking for health

All our walks are led by qualified volunteers and are free! They are easy, last generally for about 45 minutes or so on good paths, and can be achieved by almost everyone. Our walks are ideal for those who might be recovering from a medical condition like angina or diabetes or those who just would like to gently get back into the habit of regular walking whilst making new friends. Many of those who regularly attend our walks make it a social occasion and after the walks meet for coffee and a chat.

If you could spare an hour or so occasionally to lead walks in your locality then we would love to hear from you. Age UK Carlisle and Eden have established a Walking for Health group based at Shap. There are regular walks organised in and around Shap, but in addition trips are organised further afield using the Age UK Carlisle and Eden bus. The group is well supported but new people are always welcome.

For details of forthcoming walks please contact our Resource Centre on 01768 863618.
