Age UK Cheshire East – a local charity with a big job to do.
There are 60,000 people aged 65+ in Cheshire East and the needs of each of them are many and varied. At Age UK Cheshire East we provide a broad spectrum of services to meet these diverse needs. From the purely sociable scrabble/book clubs and the healthy walking groups to the unique Men in Sheds project; we make sure older people have interesting and imaginative ways to enjoy their time.
We also help older people in very practical ways with information and advice to increase their income or save them money, day care for those burdened with dementia and a Help at Home service that makes independent living that little bit easier.
Age UK Cheshire East operates over 21 services touching the lives of over 1,500 people each and every week.
Income attracted to the local area last year totalled £186,939 from outside Cheshire East.
Welfare benefits worth £756,193 were claimed on behalf of people over 50 in the last year to help them to live independently for longer.
200 volunteers currently work an average of two hours per week supporting the Charity’s services for older people. If these dedicated and caring individuals did not give their time freely, the Charity would have to find an additional £250,000.
Our work helping families to cope with the decisions around finding long-term care for elderly relatives meant we saved them time and money. This work also freed up 627 hospital bed days saving Cheshire East Council £219,450.
