Advocacy service

Are you finding it difficult to tackle problems on your own and speak up for yourself? Do you feel you are being treated unfairly and not being listened to?

Are you concerned that an older person is being abused or mistreated in some way?

One of our sensitive and skilled advocates could help you.

Advocacy serviceHow we work

One of our experienced and dedicated team of paid workers and specialist volunteers will take time to listen to you and find out what is really worrying you.

We will encourage you to make your own decisions and then take action to help sort things out. We will make sure that your needs and wishes always come first and that these are represented to other people too, when necessary.

We can come and see you at home, in hospital or a care home or somewhere else.

One of our advocates speaks some Asian languages and she can offer a culturally sensitive service to Asian older people.

We can help you

  • if you feel that you are being mistreated or abused
  • if you think you are being discriminated against because of your age, race or disability
  • if you have concerns about housing, health, care or other matters
  • sort out finances and manage your money and bills
  • make your voice heard when it feels as if no one is listening to you
  • with any other matter that is causing you concern

Our specialist hospital-based service

This service helps people while in hospital and after discharge.

We can

  • support you while you are getting a social services assessment
  • help you find, and move to, alternative accommodation, if you can’t go back home
  • Work with other agencies on your behalf
  • help with benefits and other practical matters
  • represent you, if you can’t do this for yourself

Our hospital advocacy service is based at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

Trusting us to help you

Absolute confidentiality is assured and we are completely independent of any government body. We act on behalf of the most vulnerable older people, to ensure that their needs come first. We will also put you in touch with other Age UK Coventry services that could help you.

How much does the service cost?

Our advocacy services are completely free.
