Friends at home

For people who find it difficult to get out and about and would prefer one-to-one companionship, a friendly volunteer can regularly visit you in your home for a chat, cup of tea or to share an activity such as cooking or a game of cards.

Friends at homeThis scheme is much in demand so we do need to give priority to those people who do not have other regular visitors.

How much does it cost?

The friends at home service is a free service.

Could you be a friend to someone else?

If you could spare just an hour or so a week to visit someone at home, you could make such a difference.

We are looking for local people of all ages and backgrounds to make friends with someone who is alone at home and can’t easily get out.

You could share a cup of tea and have a chat or assist someone to take part in an activity or just go out somewhere together.

Comments from a friends at home service user

'My volunteer is bright, cheerful and just helps me by being herself. I feel very vulnerable on my own, but talking helps me forget the upsetting times.'
