Partnership for Older People in Croydon
In response to a direct request from older people in the Borough, Croydon Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Croydon Social Services applied jointly for a grant from the Department of Health (DoH). The application was successful and on 1st May 2007 the POP Service was launched using a temporary bus.
A new purpose-built bus was unveiled on 5th February 2008 at North End, Croydon, and is now delivering services, information and advice direct to older people around the Borough.
The POP bus is an excellent example of partnership working between Croydon PCT, Croydon Social Services and the voluntary sector (including Age UK Croydon). Many different professionals and services are available at different times, including:
- Advice on council services
- Benefits advice
- Blood pressure checks
- Carers information
- Falls Prevention
- Health 'MOTs' and medicines management
- Health visitors for older people
- Hearing assessment
- Housing advice
- Information about what’s on in Croydon
- Keeping well in old age
- Nail cutting
The programme showing when and where the POP bus will be near you is available at:
www.croydonpop.org.uk and will also be available in places such as:
- Council offices
- GP surgeries
- Local libraries
- Neighbourhood centres
