Age UK Croydon offers a Visiting Service which is available to people aged 50 or over and living in the Borough of Croydon who are isolated or lonely or need to build confidence in going out.
Befriending volunteer Visit clients in their own homes, sheltered housing, residential or nursing homes to
monitor the well being of the client and ensure that their independence is maximised.
They explore the nature of client’s requirement beyond the visiting need, signpost or make referrals to appropriate service providers internally & externally with permission
Befrienders encourage our clients to take part in activities that may have previously been enjoyed such as music, lunch clubs etc. which may have become lost due to their health and/or social circumstance.
Befriender role may also involve:
- Read the clients Post
- File the letters
- Encourage the clients to undertake simple admin tasks
As part of our Visiting service project We also provide an Enablement Service
This service will be targeted at those older adults who have lost confidence due to fall, accident or ill health
have been a victim of crime, experienced exclusion, recently been discharged from hospital, been bereaved
Befrienders support and encourage older adults to regain confidence, independence and inclusion,encourage them to re-establish themselves into using public transport if they are able to accompany them to shops and other community event and help them manage their day-to-day matter.
