Age Positive Photography Competition 2014: Winners Announced!
The judging of our Age Positive Photography Competition 2014 has now taken place and we are delighted to name our very worthy winners and highly commended entrants.
The panel of judges had a difficult task to choose just two winners from over 80 entries to the competition. The judges were impressed by the fantastic range of ideas that the entrants came up with to portray our theme of ‘positive ageing’, and the high quality of so many of the images. Some of the stories behind the photographs were also very inspiring. Here are our winners:
Under 16 category
Winner: Joel Dixon, aged 15 from Cwmbran.
Joel won the under 16 category with his photograph, ‘Family Traditions’, of an age positive-themed scrabble board. Joel’s quirky use of the Scrabble board to portray the relationship between the different generations of his family struck a chord with the judges. Joel is studying GCSE photography at Croesyceiliog School in Cwmbran.
Alaw Fon Roberts, aged 15 from Bontnewydd in Gwynedd, for ‘Go for it-Nain & Taid’
Eric Statham, aged 11 from Ysgol y Berwyn in Bala, for ‘Rock and Roll Grandma’
Meleri Hughes, aged 12 from Ysgol y Berwyn in Bala, for ‘Rock and Roll Grandad’
Joel Dixon, aged 15 from Cwmbran, for ‘When your hair has turned to silver'
16 and over category
Winner: Meirwen Jones from Caerphilly.
Meirwen won the 16 and over category with her photograph, “Who said I’m too old?” of a grandfather playfully arm-wrestling with his grandson. Meirwen’s photography was unanimously selected by the judges, who felt it was a beautiful image depicting a very positive intergenerational message. Meirwen is a keen amateur photographer.
Terry Mills from Pwllheli for ‘Swinging Sixties’
Grace Thomas from Lanelli for ‘Ninja Nan’
Both our winners received a £100 high street shopping voucher. Congratulations to Joel and Meirwen!
This is the first time we’ve held the Age Positive Photography Competition, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response from amateur and young photographers across Wales.
Thank you to all who participated. We are keen to make this an annual event and we hope that you will enter again next year!
