Age discrimination: Just equal treatment

meeting

Age discrimination is wrong and blights the lives of many of us in later life. We have launched the just equal treatment campaign to challenge age discrimination and make sure that we all have fair access to health services, insurance and employment.

Age discrimination in the health service

When we are sick, we want to get the best treatment available to us. However, ageist rules in the NHS mean that we may receive different treatment when we go to the doctor. Our problems are sometimes dismissed as ‘old age’ and we suffer much pain and distress as a result.

Age discrimination in insurance

When we buy things, we want to have the same choices and value as other people. As we get older, there are fewer insurance companies willing to cover us. And after we reach 65, at every birthday, the price of insurance shoots up. We want to be able to drive our cars and go on holidays with the peace of mind that insurance brings. But sometimes the cost of the insurance is too much – the insurance shouldn’t cost us more than the holiday!

Age discrimination in employment

We want to be able to choose when we work and when we retire. Currently, the law allows our employers to force us to retire at any age after 65.

We believe this is age discrimination and we are campaigning to change the law. We want the UK government to scrap the default retirement age.

What you can do

If you’ve been forced to retire, please contact us and share your experiences.

All we want is equal treatment and equal respect.
