Intergrational volunteer

man reading to child

Volunteering with the younger generation can be extremely rewarding, with volunteers reporting that spending time with a younger person is both worthwhile and inspiring.

While volunteering, you will share your own knowledge and experience. In return you will learn new skills, widen your social circle, get active, change the life of a younger person, make a difference to your community and challenge negative stereotypes of growing older.

Examples of projects:

  • One-to-one mentoring schemes for young people who need extra support
  • Topical debates based on local issues
  • Skill sharing workshops, such as computer skills and the arts
  • Reminiscence and history talks to school children
  • Regenerating local areas e.g. planting trees

Projects vary across Wales - contact your local Age Concern to see what intergenerational projects are running in your area.  To find your local Age Concern, call 029 2043 1555.
