Toni, LIFT participant's story

“I mainly come to the LIFT sessions to keep in shape, but I also like the social side of the class. My husband has been ill lately, so it has been good to have a little ‘me’ time. I definitely feel my health has benefited from me attending. I like walking but sometimes with poor weather it is great to have an indoor activity to do. 

My favorite part of the sessions are the routines and moving to music is such fun. You do not realize how much you move about! Our LIFT Leader is friendly and fun and is always making up different routines for us to do.  It keeps our brains active as well as our bodies. We always have a cuppa, cake or biscuits after the session. It is a great way to get out of the house and meet new people. Everyone is very friendly. Our ages range from early 60’s to 83. It is nice to have something to chat about to friends and when I get home I show my hubby some of the exercises and he does some of the gentler exercises now.

I think it is important to keep active as you get older, even if it is only to be able to get in and out of the chair unaided and to be able to keep your balance.”

“When our volunteers found out about the LIFT course they were really keen to get started. They returned from the course saying how much they enjoyed it, but most importantly they felt confident to go out and deliver LIFT sessions for local people in their local community. In the few months since we have had such a demand for the programme we are already looking to get some more people trained and have found no shortage of volunteers who want to get involved with the programme and train as a LIFT Leader.”
