Age Cymru at St David's 2 shopping centre

Published on 14 June 2012 09:30 AM

We'll be in Cardiff city centre next Monday (18 June) to give information to older people about how they can protect themselves from falls.

Our Healthy Ageing Programme will be at St David's 2 shopping centre from 9.00am until 9.00pm.

It's all part of a Wales-wide programme called ‘Falls Awareness Week 2012' which is taking place between 18 June and 22 June.

Age Cymru's Health Initiatives Officer Joanne Bass says:

"Half of all over 80 and a third over 65s are at risk of a potentially serious falls this year.

"Falls leave people shaken and bruised, often with broken bones, and one in five falls can actually be fatal.

"This is why it is so important that older people are aware of health risks posed by falls, as well as how to prevent them."

The Age Cymru information stand will be on Level 1 of the St David's 2 Shopping Centre between Mothercare and USC, near Debenhams on Monday 18 June.

Visitors to the stand will be able to pick up a range of information guides about slips, trips and falls; physical activity, home adaptations and boosting your bones.

An Age Cymru Nordic Walking instructor will also be on hand to demonstrate strength and balance exercises.
