"Living life to the full is my philosophy" says Gillian Owens
A BRIDGEND Care Home Director received a Lifetime Achievement Award on 20 April after dedicating 28 years to providing excellent care for older people.
Mrs Gillian Owens who is 71 years old, was awarded a certificate by older people's charity Age Cymru at Foxtroy House Residential Home in Tondu, Bridgend.
Age Cymru recognised Gillian's achievements after receiving an Award nomination earlier this year for her devotion to creating a wonderful care home in Bridgend.
Gillian says;
"I'm truly honoured to receive this award from Age Cymru.
"Living life to the full is my philosophy and I wouldn't expect anything less for our care home residents since I opened the home in 1987.
"I know that providing a caring culture for everyone just makes sense and we've often shared this with other care home managers in Wales."
The Award was presented by Age Cymru's Chief Executive, Ian Thomas.
Ian says;
"We're delighted to recognise the incredible commitment and service Gillian Owens has provided over the years and still continues to do so.
"Her dedication to provide a caring culture for older residents at Foxtroy Residential Home is one that should be recognised and celebrated.
"Through our My Home Life Cymru programme, Age Cymru is dedicated to improving the lives of people who live, work in and visit care homes across Wales.
"This is why we feel it is important to recognise the contribution Mrs Owens has made to improve the lives of older people in the County Borough."
In her spare time, Gillian still finds time to volunteer, providing support to local community groups by opening her home to provide cream teas and taking them to social functions.
