'Dignified Care? One Year On' report

Commenting on the publication today of the Older People's Commissioner for Wales's ‘Dignified Care? One Year On' report, Age Cymru Director of Influencing and Programme Development Victoria Lloyd says:
"Age Cymru welcomed the 'Dignified Care' report which was a review carried out by the Older People's Commissioner for Wales in 2011 into older people's experiences in .
"It highlighted that there were serious shortcomings in wards across Wales and revealed that many older patients were not being treated with dignity.
"Today's follow-on report shows that despite the evidence that dignity is a subject which is now being taken more seriously by the NHS in Wales and the Welsh Government there is a lack of evidence that patient care has improved significantly in the last 12 months in Welsh hospitals.
"We strongly support the Older People's Commissioner's pledge to continue to press the NHS and Welsh Government for clear evidence that patient care for older people is improving on our hospital wards over the next 18 months because it is that improvement in experience that is our shared goal.
"Dignity sums up our minimum expectations of how we should be treated, yet too often this simple requirement is ignored in health and social care.
"This situation cannot be allowed to continue and this is why we commend the Older People's Commission for its work to put dignity at the heart of health and social care."
