Seven arts groups and projects from across Wales are competing for an award in recognition of their work with an older people's arts festival.

The Gwanwyn Award will go to the group judges rule have made an exceptional contribution to the delivery of Age Cymru's Gwanwyn festival -  an annual, Wales-wide month-long festival that takes place every May.

Our Arts and Creativity Development Officer Emma Robinson says:

"We've had nominations from around the country for this year's Gwanwyn Award.

"There are groups and projects from Brecon, Caernarfon, Cardiff, Llandrindod Wells and Newtown all in the running for this year's prize.

"We've had a very diverse cross-section of nominations - some of the nominees are based in local communities, one is based in a theatre, and two others are based in hospitals.

"The one thing they all in common however is that have all made fantastic contributions to the Gwanwyn arts festival for older people, and this is an opportunity to acknowledge their part in celebrating creativity in older age".

The nominees are:
• The Brecon U3A Family History Group for its World War 1 Centenary commemoration project;
