Unsuspecting South Wales holidaymakers are paying private companies up to £14.99 each for European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC), despite them being available for free through official channels.

That’s according to Age Cymru Enterprises in Cardiff, which is now offering to complete online application forms for free for callers to its offices at 58 Merthyr Road, Whitchurch.

Age Cymru’s Development Manager George Burke says:

“We recently had someone call into our offices who told us about some negative experiences she’d had when she applied for the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

“We looked into this and found out that there are private companies out there who are charging £14.99 for a service that is free if you go through the official channels.
“These companies are not breaking the law, but Age Cymru Enterprises believes it is wrong to charge the public £14.99 for a service that you can and should be getting for free.

“This is why Age Cymru Enterprises in Cardiff is now offering to fill in the official EHIC online application forms for free for all callers to our offices – just make sure you bring along evidence of your address and National Insurance number.”
