Run the Cardiff Half Marathon for Age Cymru

Published on 18 June 2014 02:00 PM

61-year-old record-holding runner Martin Rees is leading the race to recruit members for Age Cymru's Cardiff half marathon team.

You may remember Martin making national headlines last year when he took a world record for over 60s in the Cardiff 10k.

He now holds a staggering 47 records and is helping us to recruit members for the Age Cymru Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon team.

Says Martin:

"I am glad to be supporting Age Cymru because I was almost 40 when I took up running, and by the age of 45 I was breaking world records.

"I believe everybody's got a hidden talent and you're never too old to start, in fact there are people in their 70s and older who run and they clock up some very respectable times.

"Age Cymru is a great cause and this is your chance to help an organisation that campaigns for a better world for older people.

"So grab yourself some running shoes, get training, sign up to run the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon for Age Cymru and enjoy yourself!"

Nia Butler, Age Cymru's the charity's Individual Fundraising Manager says:

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Martin Rees helping us to recruit runners for the Age Cymru Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon team.

"The event takes place on Sunday 5 October.

"Age Cymru works across Wales and provides life-changing support and services for older people.

"In recent years, Age Cymru and our local partners have helped put more than £13 million into the pockets of cash-strapped older people.

"Age Cymru also provides services that help older people to lead healthier lives, such as our Wales-wide Nordic Walking programme.

"Please support us to continue with this important work by signing up to run the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon for Age Cymru."
