Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Bill Stage 1

Published on 09 October 2013 03:30 PM

Commenting on the completion of Stage 1 scrutiny for the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Bill, Age Cymru's Head of Policy & Public Affairs Graeme Francis says:

"The Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Bill is a landmark piece of legislation for Wales.

"It sets out how the Welsh Government will meet the future social care needs of the population of Wales and as such it is very important that we get it right.

"We're pleased that the Bill has passed through Stage 1 of its journey through the Assembly, but there is lots more work to do during detailed scrutiny at Stage 2 to make sure that it achieves its potential to transform services.

"Reforming the social care system in Wales is one of the biggest challenges that we're currently facing.

"This is why Age Cymru will continue to work with the Welsh Government and National Assembly for Wales to make sure that this new bill will provide the social care that the people of Wales need now and in the future."
