Strategy for Older People in Wales - Phase 3

Published on 22 May 2013 08:30 AM

Age Cymru has welcomed today's launch of the third phase of the Welsh Government's Strategy for Older People in Wales.

Commenting on the publication of the blueprint for Wales's ageing population, our Director of Influencing and Programme Development Victoria Lloyd says:

"Age Cymru welcomes the latest phase of the Strategy for Older People - the Welsh Government's new 10 year commitment to improving the lives of older people in Wales.

"Whilst older age can be a time of opportunity for some, too many currently face challenges in their daily lives caused by poverty, loneliness and age discrimination.

"With the population of Wales ageing more rapidly than that of anywhere else in the UK, tackling the issues that blight the lives of older people must be a priority for local and national government.

"The Welsh Government must prioritise tackling poverty among older people; making our communities more ‘age-friendly' to provide the facilities and services older people need, and bring forward proposals to improve how people pay for social care."
