"We all had problems and needed company"

Published on 18 May 2016 09:30 AM

"We all had problems in one shape or other, but we all needed company and the Squirrel's Nest was somewhere we could go to meet other people", says 77-year-old Walter Westcott from Penarth.

Walter lives alone and has been visiting the Squirrel's Nest Men's Shed in Bridgend since he was treated for prostate cancer in 2013.

"My treatment involved 37 weekly radiotherapy sessions and I was feeling washed out and tired.

"I was offered the chance to go along to the Squirrel's Nest Men's Shed in Bridgend and found out immediately that it was a nice place to be and soon got to know some of the other men there.

"The Squirrel's Nest Men's Shed helped me recover, find something to do with my time and gave me a sense of achievement."

The Squirrel's Nest Men's Shed is having an open day on Friday 20 May and showing off ukuleles, mountain dulcimers and other items made by the members as part of the Gwanwyn festival.

If you're interested in popping along please call Alan at the Squirrel's Nest Men's Shed on 01656 729 625.
