Responding to an article in yesterday’s Western Mail by Professor Marcus Longley, which echoed calls from the Bevan Commission to improve quality of care for everyone who receives care from the NHS, Age Cymru’s Victoria Lloyd says:

“We’re glad to note that Professor Longley’s article reflected the recent groundswell of public and professional opinion about the need to ensure the dignity of older people in care settings is maintained and protected at all times.

“Awareness of the importance of protecting and upholding the dignity of older people has never been higher and the opportunity to achieve this goal is within our grasp.

”The challenge facing society now is to ensure that this momentum and energy is maintained by acting now to ensure that the meaningful and lasting change we strive for is delivered for older people in care settings right across Wales.”
