Responding to the announcement that the Payments Council has decided to not scrap the use of cheques, Victoria Lloyd, Age Cymru’s Director of Influencing and Programme Development says:

"We are delighted that the Payments Council has listened to the many people who said how difficult the loss of cheques would be for them.

"This is a vital first step that will help many older people.

"But we know that there are lots of other issues with banking that affect people’s everyday lives, such as problems accessing cash.

"Investment in existing and new technologies is vital.

"We look forward to working with the banking industry in future to ensure that all innovations in payment methods meet the needs of older people."
