Energy announcement

Speaking ahead of announcement today by Energy Secretary Chris Huhne in which he is expected to announce plans to make it easier for energy customers to switch suppliers, Graeme Francis, Age Cymru’s Head of Policy and Public Affairs, says:

“Age Cymru feels that making it easier for customers to switch their energy suppliers would make the energy markets more competitive.

“A more competitive market would lead to better deals for energy customers and cheaper tariffs would be a valuable contribution to the ongoing battle against fuel poverty.

“Many people are often reluctant to switch suppliers because of the complexity of the current arrangements, so more needs to be done to create a simplified and transparent system.

“This important announcement by the Energy Secretary could have significant repercussions for energy customers across the UK and we’ll be watching his speech with great interest.”
