Food hygiene report

Published on 22 March 2011 10:00 AM

Responding to today’s report from Consumer Focus Wales which reveals that 60 food premises serving food to vulnerable people – including some older people’s homes, have substandard food hygiene ratings, Age Cymru’s Director of Influencing and Programme Development Victoria Lloyd says:

“Serving potentially unsafe food to vulnerable older people is neglect, which is a form of elder abuse.

“It is a basic expectation that people in care homes will receive food that is prepared in conditions that meet statutory hygiene standards and older people and their families should be able to feel confident that they will always be provided with high quality compassionate care.

“Age Cymru is alarmed that the health of residents in some of Wales’ care homes is being compromised in this way."
