The Gwanwyn arts festival has announced the winner of a commission, supported by the Arts Council of Wales - to create a major work of art to celebrate Gwanwyn's fifth anniversary.

Announcing the winner - Emrys Williams, live on BBC Radio Wales's Roy Noble programme this afternoon Philip Thomas, the Gwanwyn Festival's Coordinator, said:

"The decision was a tough one with stiff competition from the other shortlisted artists; Sarah Hope from Newport, Pembs and Jan Gardner from Deganwy in North Wales.

"Emrys will begin work immediately and you will soon be able to follow a regular blog by the artist which will give us an insight into the work involved in such a major commission."

Visit the Gwanwyn festival website - www.gwanwyn.org.uk soon to watch this major work take shape.
