Members of the public can come and talk to Age Cymru about digital inclusion, Nordic Walking and health and wellbeing at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show in Llanelwedd between 18 July and 21 July.

The charity will be at the event to promote its ‘Ageing Better Together’ campaign with a special focus on the value of being 'online' with the internet, and taking part in regular physical activity.

Visitors will be invited to set up e-mail accounts, learn how to shop on-line and have some fun with computers.

Free tea and coffee will also be available to visitors.

Age Cymru’s Healthy Ageing Manager Claire Bottomley explains:

“Good physical health, an active mind, and keeping in touch with friends and relatives help to give us an overall sense of wellbeing and happiness, and summer is the ideal time to learn something new and take up a hobby.

“Age Cymru is visiting the Royal Welsh to speak to the public about activities that are suitable for older people as a way to improve their health and wellbeing.

“We’ll be encouraging visitors to learn how to get online and there’ll be computers set up on our stand where we’ll talk you through everything from the very basics of setting up an email account to ‘Skype’ing friends and family.

“There’ll be free tea and coffee for people who come to the Age Cymru stand and we’ll also be giving free Nordic Walking taster sessions every day at the Sports Village by Entrance B.”

Electricity distributor Western Power Distribution and the contract catering company Elior are supporting the Age Cymru stand which will be located near the Flower Hall on Avenue A.

Visitors to the Age Cymru stand will be able to have a picture taken that will show them how they might look when they are older.

Age Cymru Enterprises arrangers will also be on hand to talk to visitors about insurance and services such as gas and electricity products.

The charity’s Nordic Walking Programme will be running Nordic Walking free taster sessions for the public from its marquee at the Sports Village, which is supported by British Nordic Walking and Exel Nordic Walking Poles.

There will also be an opportunity to find out all you need to know about Nordic Walking in Wales and the rest of the UK.

Claire Bottomley concludes:

“We’ve put a lot of work into making sure there’s something for everyone who comes to meet Age Cymru at the Royal Welsh this summer.

“Our staff are all looking forward to a fun-filled four days so make sure you call to our stand to find out how you can improve your health and wellbeing and to get your free cup of tea or coffee.”
