Seven pioneering South Wales care homes are taking part in an award-winning programme from Age Cymru to improve life for people living in, visiting or working in care homes across Wales.
Two of the homes taking part in the My Home Life Cymru programme - Ysguborwen Care Home, the Laurels Care Home are in Aberdare.
Frederick House Residential Home is in Merthyr Tydfil.
The four others - Mill Heath Nursing Home, Emmaus Residential Home, Capel Grange Nursing Home and Summerhill Nursing Home, are in Newport.
Jacqui Owens from Ysguborwen Care Home, says:
“The aim of the My Home Life Cymru programme is to make sure that living, visiting or working in a care home is an enjoyable experience and we’re very excited to be taking part in this innovative project.
“Ysguborwen Care Home prides itself on creating an environment where residents truly feel at home and their relatives know that their family members are receiving the best care available.
“We’re going to be sharing our ideas with the My Home Life Cymru programme about the things that we do at Ysguborwen Care Home to make life special for our residents, their relatives and the staff who work here.”
My Home Life Cymru’s Programme Manager, John Moore says:
“My Home Life Cymru will be working with residents, their relatives and staff at these homes to identify those ideas and innovations that make life better for them.
“These can be very simple and straightforward ideas or complex innovations but the aim will be the same – improving people’s day-to-day lives in care homes.
“We’re very glad to be working with these innovative care providers in South Wales whose ideas we will be sharing with homes across the country so that as many people as possible in care homes across Wales can benefit from them.”
‘My Home Life Cymru’ won the ‘Innovation in care award’ at the prestigious Wales Care Awards 2010.
‘My Home Life Cymru’ is in its third year and has worked with 22 care homes from across the country to uncover and share best practice.
The Welsh Assembly Government’s Health Challenge Wales is funding My Home Life Cymru.

My Home Life Cymru aims to celebrate existing best practice in care homes and promote care homes as a positive option for older people.
The programme aims to do this through the development of a range of resources, events, practice development initiatives and other activities throughout Wales.
