200 experts from across Wales will be looking at quality of life in care homes at a special event in Cardiff on Wednesday 17 November.
The seminar – called ‘Realising quality of life in care homes’, which is supported by Barchester Healthcare, will look at ways of improving the lives of care home residents, relatives and staff.
It is being organised by the My Home Life Cymru programme from Age Cymru - recent winner of the Innovation in Care Award’ at the 2010 Wales Care Awards.
John Moore of My Home Life Wales says: “My Home Life Wales programme works with care home residents, relatives and staff to identify and share ideas that promote good quality of life for people who live in, visit or work in care homes.
“We’re bringing industry experts from across the country together at this seminar to examine some of the pioneering work that goes on in care homes in Wales.
“These can be very simple and straightforward ideas, or complex innovations but the aim will be the same –improving people’s day-to-day lives in care homes.
“Our overall aim is to ensure as many people as possible will benefit from some of the life-enhancing ideas that we will be under the spotlight at this event.”
Guest speakers at the event include David Sheard, care consultant on the BBC programme ‘Can Gerry Robinson Fix Dementia Care Homes?’ and star of stage and screen and campaigner Amanda Waring.
The seminar will feature a series of workshops covering subjects including ‘How can we make a care home ‘home’’, ‘Making a care home a positive option’ and ‘Maintaining dignity in care homes’.
