North Wales elder abuse prosecutions

Published on 09 March 2011 09:30 AM

Responding to the jailing yesterday of John Leslie Davies and Rhian Jones for defrauding older people in North Wales out of £116,000, Louise Hughes - Elder Abuse Programme Manager for Age Cymru says:

“Age Cymru is glad that the authorities were able to gather enough evidence in this case to mount a successful prosecution against these two individuals.

“We hope that the outcome in this case will act as a deterrent to those who would seek to exploit the most vulnerable members of society.

“The law must reinforce the message that it will not tolerate elder abuse and that older people must always be treated with dignity and respect.

“Age Cymru would encourage anyone who suspects that someone they know is being abused, or if they themselves are being abused, to report the matter to the police and social services.”
