Priority Services Register

Published on 27 January 2011 09:00 AM

Pensioners in South and West Wales are being encouraged to sign up for a priority service in the event of a power cut.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) is encouraging older people to take advantage of this service by signing up to its Priority Services Register.

Says Phil Davies, WPD’s Network Services Manager for Wales:

“WPD wants as many people as possible in South and West Wales to sign up to our Priority Services Register so that we can give practical advice and support to those people who need it in the event of a power cut.

“WPD delivers electricity to around a million homes and businesses in South and West Wales, and it is important for our older and vulnerable customers to register with the Priority Services Register scheme so that they can get additional support on those rare occasions when power supplies fail.”

The electricity distribution company is working with Age Cymru to publicise the existence of the Priority Services Register.

The charity’s spokesman Michael Phillips says:

“WPD’s Priority Services Register is designed to help older and vulnerable people in the event of a power cut.

“I would urge all older people in South and West Wales to take advantage of this scheme as it will allow WPD to identify customers who may need additional support from it if there are power failures.

“Registering with the Priority Services Register will give people peace of mind of knowing that there’s help available for them if and when they might need it.”

People registering with the WPD Priority Services Register by 25 February will be entered into a free draw to win a cash-saving electricity monitor.

• To register with the WPD Priority Services Register simply call the freephone number 0845 601 2989 or email wpdpriorityservices@westernpower.co.uk
