Responding to reports today that there has been a 9 per cent increase in investigations carried out by the authorities into allegations of abuse against vulnerable adults in Wales, Age Cymru’s Elder Abuse Programme Manager Louise Hughes, says:
“Age Cymru is encouraged by today’s report because it sends out a strong message that the abuse of vulnerable adults is not being tolerated by the authorities.
“It also demonstrates that people at all levels across different organisations working in adult protection are increasingly adept at identifying signs of possible abuse and confident that they can escalate cases where allegations of abuse have been made, for investigating.
“This report clearly shows that training on elder abuse and adult protection procedures should be mandatory for all staff involved in the care and support of older people, as it clearly makes a significant difference in protecting older people from abuse.”
