Social Opportunities 

Drivers (Ref DC01)

We need volunteers to drive our minibuses for either our Day Centre and/or our Social Groups service to collect our clients from home to take them to the Day Centres or out on a social group. Previous experience of driving a minibus would be an advantage.  Please note, Day Centres and Good Companions drivers volunteer with us all day from approx. 9.00am to 5.00pm, helping between driving duties.

Passenger Transport Assistants (Ref DC02)

Vounteers are required to assist with the successful delivery of the Day Centre Service by helping to supervise the safe transfer of clients from home to the Day Centre and back home again.  The role involves offering assistance to the client to ensure that their home is safe and secure while they are out: helping clients onto the minibus and ensuring they are safe during the journey and then assisting in the activities at the Day Centre.

Day Centre Helper (Ref DC03)

We need volunteers to help at our lively and friendly Day Centres. You will help to get the Day Centre ready in the morning, work alongside the other volunteers to run social activities for the clients and provide assistance with domestic tasks such as serving refreshments and washing up.

Day Centre Activity Organiser (Ref DC01)

This role requires a well-motivated reliable person who is happy to organise activities in and outside of our centres.  You will need to be friendly, kind, honest, flexible and an effective communicator who would enjoy being involved with the planning and implementation of enjoyable and imaginative activities in our social groups. Having experience and or a suitable qualification is preferred.

Shop Assistant (Ref TA01)

Our popular charity shop needs shop assistants who would enjoy flexible hours. The role requires chatting to and serving customers, working the cash register, sorting out donations and keeping the shop floor tidy.

Information and Advice Service

Customer Services Advisor (Ref I&A06)

This volunteer role involves responding to all incoming telephone enquiries to Age UK Gateshead, logging calls on our internet based recording system (CharityLog), or passing messages on to the correct person, thereby helping us to improve our efficiency.  A key part of the role is to provide low level information, advice and 'signposting' support to older people and their families living in the Gateshead borough.  We are looking for volunteers with a clear and confident telephone manner, good communication skills and an enthusiastic attitude.
