Claiming all benefits: Could you claim more

Woman smiling

Do you claim all the money you're entitled to? For many of us, it’s the little things in life that make us happy, but are we really doing everything we can to get these little things?

It's easy to feel sad when, after working hard all our lives we can’t afford the small things, such as a treat for our grandchildren, or a simple cup of coffee when we go out.

But every year up to £5 billion in Pension Credit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefits is going unclaimed by older people. Other entitlements are also unclaimed – especially Attendance Allowance and Disability Living Allowance.

So why do we choose not to claim our money? Let's stop thinking, or assuming we're not eligible because we have some savings or we own a house.

Homeowners can get Pension Credit too.

Nearly half of families who get Pension Credit own their own home. Don’t rule yourself out.

You can have savings and still get Pension Credit.

In fact, if you’re aged 65 or over you might be entitled to extra money for having saved some money towards your retirement.

Ask for a full benefits check

Even if you’re claiming some benefits, you may be entitled to others. Get checked for them all.

  • explain each benefit and calculate what you might be entitled to.
  • fill in your claim forms and we may be able to visit you at home to do so.
