How care services are provided

Couple on sofa

Care and support is a range of services that help us in our day to day lives, including help with everyday tasks such as cooking and shopping as well as personal care‚ which includes washing and help with eating.

In the video below, members of the public share their thoughts on how they plan to organise care for themselves in later life:

There are three broad types of care:

Home

Home care is paid care provided to those of us living in our own homes in later life. This could be personal care and help with everyday tasks in the home‚ or support at a day centre. Home care enables us to remain in our own homes for as long as possible.

Residential

If we require a lot of support‚ it may be necessary to have this provided in a care home that provides care that meets our specific needs.

Informal

Informal care and support from family and friends can include help with everyday tasks and also personal care. It is called ‘informal’ because relatives or friends do not get paid.
