The Pensions Bill proposes to equalise men's and women's state pension age at 65 in November 2018, and then raise it to 66 by April 2020. This is 6 years earlier than planned, and we think it doesn't leave enough time to plan.
It's not too late to do something about this! Together, we can persuade the government to think again and not implement the speed-up.
Under current plans, women's state pension age is gradually rising to 65, to equalise with men, in 2020, and everyone's state pension age will rise to 66 between 2024 and 2026. The government is now proposing to tear up that plan and bring in much faster changes, with everyone retiring at 66 by April 2020. As a result of the changes:
Check what the current rise in women’s state pension age and the proposed changes would mean for you.
This will show when you would be eligible to receive your state pension if these changes are passed.
Equalisation means that men born 6 December 1953 onwards will have the same state pension age date as women with the same date of birth. Under the new proposals men born from 6 December to 5 March 1954 will have to wait up to a year longer and those born from 6 April 1954 onwards will have to wait until they are 66.
We want the government to abandon their plans to speed up the equalisation of the state pension age
