'My time at Age UK really was ACE! Not only was I given the opportunity to become a Volunteer Survey Data Analyst, which benefited the organisation, it also benefited me.'The role provided me with extremely valuable work experience and enabled me to enhance my skills and utilise them within the right environment. I was welcomed from the onset by the whole team and was treated as an equal member, even though I was a volunteer.
'My time at Age UK was not only constructive, but also fun - I'd highly recommend it to anyone!'Samarah Hashmi, Survey Analyst Volunteer European and International Unit, April 2008
Dave Wright, volunteer
'Working in the Campaigns Department for four weeks was a great experience. I was amazed at how engaged the team are in the major practical issues for older people - fuel poverty, depression, reducing the number of falls and ageism in the workplace.
'My main task was to input the questionnaires from older people giving their views on the Government’s proposals for social care.
'Personally, it gave me an insight into how difficult life is for many older people in Britain today. It seemed to me that they are often denied relatively small investments at their home that could make a big improvement to their quality of life. This also helped me choose a topic area for the social research qualification I am studying with the Open University.'Dave Wright, Data Assistant Volunteer, Campaigns Department, November 2009 – December 2009
