National partners

The fit as a fiddle national programme is being delivered by our national team working in partnership with related organisations. Our national partners include organisations with expertise in and experience of developing programmes with older people relating to fit as a fiddle themes.

Currently‚ fit as a fiddle national partners include:

National Association for the Providers of Activities for Older People (NAPA)

NAPA believes that physical activity is at the heart of care for older people. It is dedicated to raising the awareness and understanding of older peoples' activity needs‚ equipping care homes staff with the skills to enable residents to enjoy a range of activities in care settings.
NAPA:

  • delivers best practice training and support
  • disseminates useful information
  • promotes‚ encourages and researches best practice
  • raises the status of activity providers

NAPA will work with fit as a fiddle to develop a cascade training programme‚ named Come to Tea‚ for volunteers supporting frail older people in care home settings. It will  also contribute to good practice guides.

Exercise Movement and Dance Partnership (EMDP)

The Exercise Movement and Dance Partnership promotes knowledge and training on recreational movement and dance. EMDP promotes the public teacher and specialist training courses of its partner organisations‚ supporting three founder members:

  • The Keep Fit Association
  • The Medau Society
  • The Fitness League

EMDP is working with the Keep Fit Association to develop an exercise DVD focusing on the needs of older people with limited mobility. 

Blood Pressure Association

Blood Pressure Association (BPA) is a UK charity educating people about blood pressure‚ and supporting people with blood pressure-related illnesses to be better able to manage their conditions. The BPA provides information on things you can do to promote good health and blood pressure‚ including doing more physical exercise and improving your diet.  

The BPA have worked with fit as a fiddle to produce a series of colourful booklets on physical activity, nutrition and wellbeing, for people living in residential care, named Zest for Life, As Much as You Can and Add Flavour.

Mental Health Foundation

The Mental Health Foundation is a leading charity promoting good practice‚ and carrying out research‚ campaigning and policy work in relation to a wide range of mental health issues. In its work‚ the Foundation takes into acount the mental health issues that affect a wide range of people‚ including those affecting older people.

The Mental Health’s Foundation Grouchy Old Men’s project is supporting the mental health component of the Older Men’s Cascade Training Programme.

Age Concern Central Lancashire

Age Concern Central Lancashire provides a wide range of services to older people within the political boundaries of Preston and South Ribble. It aims to promote the wellbeing of older people, independent living and encourage informed choices and decision making.

 
Age Concern Central Lancashire are partnering with fit as a fiddle to develop the national cascade training programme for older people, based on their successful regional fit as a fiddle older men’s work.

Sporting Equals   

Set up in 1998 by Sport England, Sporting Equals is an independent body developed to promote ethnic diversity in the area of sport and physical activity. Sporting Equals aims to raise awareness of the needs of BME communities, influence policy and decision makers and inspire greater participation and change in relation to sport and activity.
Sporting Equals are the lead partner developing fit as a fiddle’s national cascade training programme engaging older people from faith and BME communities.
