Dementia care

This full day course gives a more in-depth understanding of how to manage the consequences of dementia. This course is for managers, team leaders, volunteers, paid carers and informal carers who are looking after people on a day-to-day basis.

 

The emphasis of this course is on the above and includes:

 

  • the nature of the differing types of dementia
  • how the differing types of dementia may shape behaviour and experience
  • dealing with challenging behaviour
  • the ways in which clients with dementia can be assisted to lead more fulfilling daily lives
  • the development of purposeful activity in care settings
  • an introduction to reminiscence and life history work with older people including people with dementia
  • explores ideas for helping individuals to share their memories and different ways of recording these such as memory boxes and life history books
