Sunday 4th October 2015: Silver Sunday is an annual day of fun and free activities for older people across the UK

This Silver Sunday Age UK Herefordshire & Worcestershire, along with the University of Worcester, the Worcester Ramblers and the County Sports Partnership, offered a 'morning of walking' for over 50's, family, friends and carers.

Sunday 4th October was a fresh bright sunny day, perfect for walking! 12 walkers set off from the car park at the University at 9.00am for a 6 mile hike, another 24 walkers set off at 10.00am from the University Sports Centre for a 4 mile walk on surfaced paths, and 5 people set off at 10.30am for a gentle 1 mile stroll around the university grounds. All 41 walkers returned happily to the Sports Hall around 12.00pm for tea and homemade cakes (and seconds!).

While the walkers had a well-deserved tea and cake, and chatted with new friends, information was made available from the Worcester Ramblers and Worcestershire County Council Walking for Health about regular walking opportunities.

Look out for more 'Active Age' celebrations. Coming up: the Active Age Festival on Saturday 4th June 2016 (date tbc) and the next Silver Sunday on 2nd October 2016!

Walking Land's End to John O'Groats for Age UK

May 2014

Our volunteers Paul and Diane Jackson are walking 1100 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats in aid of Age UK Herefordshire & Worcestershire setting off on 17th May 2014.

They are in their sixties, so they are hoping to inspire others to be active in later life whilst raising some awareness for the charity but if they don't complete the distance for any reason please still pledge the money.

It doesn't matter how small, a penny raised for every mile or a penny for every 10 miles walked.

Visit their Justgiving page, or sponsor them via text: text LEJG62 followed by £1, £2, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070.
