The co-ordinators have varied roles which depend to some degree on the needs of the local people. They all offer advice, information and support to older people, their families and carers. In addition, Age UK Hull takes Social Work students on a placement basis to provide training and 'real-world' experience in a variety of situations.
They visit clients in their own homes, identifying their needs and if required referring them to the appropriate agencies or services. They also support local clubs and centres and assist in developing services.
People contact the organisation for advice or information on housing, benefits, health, social issues, personal problems, and all other issues that may affect them or their family's lives. Contact your local office regardless of the size of the problem.
We are very keen on raising awareness of health issues. Leaflets are available at our Porter Street office. We have awareness sessions and campaign to promote better health opportunities for older people. The Ageing Well and Falls Project in particular focus on health issues relating to older people.
We loan out wheelchairs and electric heaters. There is a charge for the wheelchair hire service of £2.50 per day, £10.00 per week and, if required, £3.00 for delivery (£5.00 if the delivery address is located outside the Hull boundary). Wheelchairs can be hired for up to three weeks at a time (extensions can be made if necessary). If you wish to hire an item please call us on 01482 324 644. Please note that a £30 deposit must be paid and will be refunded upon the return of the wheelchair in good condition.
This service allows older people to stay independent in their own homes safely and with dignity, by providing care and support to them and their carers with individually tailored services.
The service is for older people who need help in the home which can be for as little as one hour a week. This is a paid service, for current rates please call our home support office on 01482 225 694.

The Day Service is based at the Holderness Road methodist Church and is available to anyone aged over 50 offering them an opportunity to meet new friends and take part in a variety of stimulating activities. Personal care is not offered, therefore members must be independent and be able to get around the centre and care for themselves. There is a charge for the service which includes door to door transport if required, and refreshments for the day.
