Invisible but Invaluable - photo exhibition

The hands of an older couple, each holding the others' hands.

Our 'Invisible but Invaluable' photography exhbition, celebrating older carers, was on display in the crypt of
opens link in new window St-Martin-in-the-Fields church in Trafalgar Square in London, from 2 - 21 November 2010. We have recreated many of the photos from the exhibition here.

Age UK campaigning with older carers

Although many older carers find caring rewarding and see it as an expression of their love for the person they care for, they also tell us that they feel undervalued. Many are stressed and exhausted. They need financial, practical and emotional support.

This exhibition made older carers visible and told their stories. It asked for everyone’s support - and especially that of local and national government - to make sure that they get the recognition they so richly deserve.

We would like to thank carers from Birmingham, Oxfordshire, Waltham Forest, and from Morley and Crossgates in Leeds, as well as the hundreds of other carers who wrote to us to share their experiences of caring and to tell us about the help they receive or need.

All photography is by Sam Mellish.
