ASHA – Asian Women’s Resource Centre

This centre primarily supports Asian women who are suffering from domestic violence. The centre also provides advice, support and counselling and offers classes for all ages in English, Mathematics, computing and yoga. It also supports Asian elders with benefit claims, accessing services and housing.

Ashram - Lambeth Asian Day Centre

This day centre provides older people from the local Asian communities with health sessions, classes and puts on social and cultural events. It can also provide advice regarding basic housing and benefits, help with form filling and referrals to specialist services. Guernsey Grove Community Association

This association offers African Caribbean and British older people in Lambeth a variety of activities including arts and crafts, home and hospital visiting, discussion groups and excursions. The service can also assist in completing forms, arranging funerals and offers individuals bereavement counselling. Anyone who is over the age of 65, vulnerable through frailty, loneliness, bereavement, trauma or isolation can access this service.

Lambeth Chinese Community Association

This is targeted at Cantonese speaking Chinese and Vietnamese people living in Lambeth. This service offers older people’s services including a mental health project and a home help service. There is also a carer’s project providing support, advice, advocacy, domiciliary care, home visits, support groups, social activities and outings. In addition, there is a Chinese language school on Saturdays and festive celebrations throughout the year.

Lambeth Somali Community Association

This association offers advice on housing, welfare rights, health, immigration, employment and training for the Somali community. In addition, one can access help to health and social services as well as translating/interpreting services. Home visiting for older people, IT and ESOL classes and sewing classes for older women are also available.

Latin American Golden Years Day Centre

The day centre can refer individuals to services that offer advice on benefits, housing rights and accessing health and social services. It is for people over the age of 55 from the Latin American and Spanish speaking countries.

 

The day centre itself offers recreational and leisure activities are also arranged. In addition, the centre provides counselling, particularly for members of the community who have experienced torture in their countries of origin. Mitali Asian Elders Group

This is a social group for elderly Asian men mainly from the Bengali community which usually meets once a week. The group offers support and advice on housing, welfare and health. Refreshments, trips and summer outings are also provided. Please contact the centre for the meeting times.

Refugee Council

The Refugee Council provides a range of services for asylum seekers recently arrived in the UK and for those asylum seekers who have already settled in the UK. The service also offers advice to those who have received an asylum decision. The office can be visited in person or advice can be given by telephone, subject to the availability of interpreters.

Refugee Support Centre

A multilingual counselling and psychotherapy service for refugees and asylum seekers experiencing emotional or psychological distress. The centre also offers therapeutic activity groups including family therapy and art therapy.

Lambeth Council Day Care Centres

Lambeth may provide and arrange day care for residents who are frail and vulnerable or are in need of support to remain living in the community.

 

This service is only available to residents of Lambeth after having had an assessment of their needs through Lambeth Adults and Community Services (Phone: 020 7926 5555).
